Baby gear and accessories are my weaknesses. As a second time mom, I thought I had everything but then my favorite brands come out with 2.0 versions or items that didn’t exist now do. What’s a mom to do?
Here are three things I added to my “must haves” list for newborns:
I was hesitant to get this but I saw another mom friend use one and I had to add it to my artillery of baby sleep aid items. If you are a second time mom or you are a mom-to-be and have done research on baby sleep (you are smart and ahead of the game), then you have heard of the “5 S’s” by Dr. Harvey Karp in the ‘Happiest Baby on the Block’ book. Shushing is calming for babies (one of the S’s) but it is quite exhausting to make the shushing noise yourself. Insert the Baby Shusher. I love this because you can control the volume, it’s portable and best of all… it works! I kept my shusher in the car because that’s where my kids would tend to cry.
Milkies Milk Saver (Breast Milk Collector)
As a nursing mom, I don’t want to waste a single drop of breastmilk. I remember being so frustrated when I would soak a nursing pad (or my bra). This BPA free Milk Collector is discreet so you can place it right in your bra and it will catch milk from your non-nursing side. In the first few months, I used this almost every daytime nursing session and saved so much milk. After baby was fed, I would add the collected milk to a breastmilk storage bag I had in the fridge and then transfer to the freezer at the end of the day. Having this product gave me a head start on building up my freezer stash. This is the perfect gift for a baby shower or baby sprinkle. New moms might not know they need this and veteran moms will be thrilled a product like this exists.
For my son, I had a changing pad and multiple changing pad covers. He was constantly peeing on the changing pads and I spent so much time washing and rotating the covers. I thought that was just the way it goes with changing pads until I saw my friend had a keekaroo changer. It looked comfortable and high tech at the same time. I had to have one. It’s water resistant and easy to clean. There is no need for liners or changing pads with the keekaroo. The design is chic and looks great in a nursery. I love mine and am so thrilled to not have a standard changing pad this time around.
Did you add to your baby gear after having a second child? What are your favorite things to give to your friends at a baby shower?
XOXO,
Heather
