It happened as it was bound to: the kids got sick! The cough with the stuffy/runny nose has totally taken over this house. Although it was defeating to me that my kids don’t feel well, I had a sense of confidence and I was prepared to battle these colds. I want to share my list of must haves to tackle a kid’s cold.
(Please note that I am by no means a medical professional so always consult your child’s pediatrician. These are my “must haves” to use to fight colds).
Humidifier: This is my favorite humidifier as it holds up to 5 liters of water. (Be sure not to add any essential oils to the water). I run it nonstop in the kid’s rooms. I make sure to refill it at night before bedtime.
Booger Sucker: I was grossed out at first to try the Fridababy NoseFrida but it really works wonders. I can’t believe how much snot comes out of my kid’s noses when they’re sick. I use the NoseFrida when the kids wake up, before a meal, and before they nap/go to bed.
Saline: Saline Snot Spray by Fridababy is a great addition to the NoseFrida, especially if your kiddo(s) have a stuffy nose.
Booger Wipes: I can remember the feeling of having my own nose wiped when I was a little kid. When I had a cold, my nose felt raw and I didn’t want a tissue to come anywhere near me. I love Boogie Wipes to have on hand for runny little noses. These are wet tissues with a nice, simple grape scent (you can get unscented) and they also have natural saline. Vitamin E, chamomile, and aloe are the other key ingredients.
Vapor Bath: When the kids are sick, I try and bathe them twice a day to help them feel relaxed and to break up all the snot/congestion. I came across this Cough/Stuffy Nose Vapor Bath Oil and always have a bottle on hand. (The bottle notes that this should not be used on babies less than 6 months old). There is also a roll on that I use on the kid’s feet before bedtime.
Toy Spray: I use this Toy Disinfectant Spray constantly, even when my kids aren’t sick. If we have guests, I will spray down the kids play areas as well as their toys. I use this on overdrive if the kids are sick because I don’t want to be constantly sharing cold germs. I bought this because it eliminates 99.9% of germs, viruses, fungus, mold, and bacteria. it kills RSV, Salmonella, E.coli, Cold and Flu, Strep, E.coli, and more gross things kids can catch from toys. The most appealing feature to me was it has no harmful chemicals and it leaves behind no chemical residue. I feel safe using this on all the kids toys.
Pedialyte: I use Pedialyte to pump liquids into my toddler. I worry about kids being dehydrated when they’re sick. You can also makes these fun and freeze them into mini popsicle molds if your little ones have a sore throat or don’t want to drink liquids.
Thanks for following along.
Stay germ-free!
